Scenic Kallista - background for Take Me As I Am
Kallista is a small tourist village located in the mountain forests of the Dandenong Ranges, between Belgrave and Olinda.
The heart of Kallista is located at the junction of the roads to Monbulk andEmerald and consists of a few speciality shops, cafes, and an attractive nursery. The community house in Church Street is the venue of the monthly Kallista Community Arts and Crafts Market which offers food, plants, craft stalls and entertainment. The Kallista Tea Rooms, just north of the town centre, is a popular place to stop for refreshments while touring the area.
Kallista is surrounded by a number of attractive parks and gardens including the vast Dandenong Ranges National Park, which offers visitors walking tracks through native Australian bush in a scenic and mountainous environment. A lush and secluded picnic ground is located on Perrins Creek Road at the footbridge which crosses Sassafras Creek.
The eastern extremities of Kallista see the bushy mountainous parks of the Dandenong Ranges give way to rolling fields of grazing land. From Gallemonda Park Road, elevated views south across to Cardinia Reservoir can be enjoyed, while the lookout at Johns Hill Reserve, off Ridge Road, provides views north past Monbulk and south across Johns Hill reservoir towards Menzies Creek and Emerald.
